Kalliopi Margiori – Ersotelou, member of the Chamber Of Fine Arts Of Greece (EEΤΕ), works as an iconographer creating icons and church murals for churches and private collections. She also teaches Byzantine iconography in various institutions, including the School of Visual Arts MERSO (https://www.merso.gr), public vocational institutes, cultural centres of OTE and ELTA, and parish churches under the auspices of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, from 1993 until today.

Her work has received several distinctions. A personal exhibition of her works was awarded by the literary society “Parnassos”, while she is described in the art book of the former director of the Greek Ministry of Culture, Mr. Theocharis Provatakis, as “an exceptional talent”. She has also been invited to Greek radio and television (NET) as a specialist on the historical development of iconography and the theological differences between Byzantine and Roman Catholic iconography.

Today she is working on the iconography of the churches of Saint George Promponas (Athens) and Saint Demetrios in Tripoli (Arcadia). A book by her entitled “Theory, Practice and Theology of the Byzantine Icon” will soon be published.

Her husband was Theologos Ersotelos, honorary president of the Association of Church Chanters of Attica, “Romanos the Melodist and John of Damascus.” Her eldest son, Michalis, directs the School of Visual Arts “MERSO” and is a painter and engraver, as well as a graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts. Her younger son, Nikolas, is the chief chanter at Saint Andrew’s Church in Weston-super-Mare and a Senior Lecturer in Creative Technologies and Programme Leader of the BSc in Digital Media at the University of the West of England in the United Kingdom.
